Member and anchor of NCAA championship 400 meter freestyle relay in 1936; set national record in 440 yard freestyle relay in 1936; four time NCAA all-American swimmer; all-American in 220 yard freestyle and breaststroke in 1935; member of all-American 440 yard freestyle relay team in 1933 and 400 meter freestyle relay team in 1936; and inventor of “butterfly dolphin stroke” in 1934, officially recognized as fourth competitive swimming stroke in 1952 at Helsinki Olympic Games.
