Coached nine Olympians (three gold medalists), nine NCAA champions, two Big Ten team championships, and athletes to forty Big Ten titles; Olympic assistant track coach in 1932 Los Angeles Games; inventor of two types of starting blocks and rubber rimmed discus; co-author of instructional textbook on track and field; president of American Track Coaches Association; and member of Helms Foundation College Track Hall of Fame.
