Olympic gold medal basketball team member at 1956 Melbourne Games; first team all-American in 1952; most valuable player in Big Ten and on Iowa team in 1952; first team all-Big Ten in 1952; broke ten Big Ten and Iowa scoring records in 1952; awarded Iowa’s Big Ten medal for excellence in scholarship and athletics in 1952; member of Phi Beta Kappa (national honorary scholarship society); and president of senior class in College of Liberal Arts.
