Named National, District VI, and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 1987; Coached Nine NCAA Tournament team appearances – Elite Eight in 1987, Sweet Sixteen in 1988, 99, and Six Second Round appearances in 1989, 91, 92, 93, 96, 97; Ten 20 victory seasons; One First-team All-American, Five All-Big Ten Players, Twelve Academic All-Big Ten players, and Thirteen National Basketball Association Draftees; Only Big Ten coach named National Coach of the Year in first season; First father and son duo to win National Coach of the Year award; and finished as all-time winningest coach at Iowa with 269-140 record (.658) and career record of 570-355 (.623).
