Coach of first Big Ten Conference team championship in 1958, NCAA fourth place team in 1957, NCAA third place team in 1958, and eight Big Ten Conference individual champions; developed world-renowned “volley method” of coaching tennis in 1948; awarded Marlboro Trophy for outstanding service in 1964; honorary member, United States Professional Tennis Association in 1978; patented subsurface watering system for clay courts in 1965; and named in his honor “Donald D. Klotz Tennis Center” in 1987.
