Five-time all-American; six-time Big Ten Conference champion; Big Ten cross country champion in 1966 (Big Ten record) and 1967 (meet record), indoor one mile champion in 1966, 67 (meet record), indoor two mile champion in 1968 (meet record) and outdoor three mile champion in 1968; most valuable athlete and three mile champion (meet record) at Sugar Bowl meet in 1967; set six Iowa cross country and track records during career; captain of Iowa track team in 1968; and member of United States international track team in 1968.
