Olympic team member in 1500 meter run at 1956 Melbourne Games; all-American cross country in 1955; Big Ten Conference indoor champion in 880 yard run and outdoor champion in 880 yard run and one mile run in 1956; captain of cross country team in 1951, 55; inducted into Drake Relays Hall of Fame in 1961; and head track and field coach at Iowa from 1978-97.
