Founded Women’s Athletics Program at Iowa and served as the only Director of Athletics; During her tenure, athletic teams won one NCAA Field Hockey Championship and 27 Big Ten Conference Championships; Ten coaches earned Conference Coach of the Year honors; Reached NCAA Championships in 10 of 12 sports; Set NCAA women’s basketball single game attendance record with 22 157 fans in 1985; Served as President of Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women in 1980-81 and National Association of Collegiate Women’s Athletic Administrators in 1987-89; Achieved 90% graduation rate for student-athletes; Member of Women’s Institute on Sport and Education Hall of Fame in 1994; Recipient of NCAA Honda Award of Merit for Outstanding Achievement in Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics in 1988 and NCAA President’s Gerald R. Ford Award for Outstanding Leadership in Higher Education and Intercollegiate Athletics in 2006; and named in the honor Iowa Field Hockey Field (Grant Field) & Rowing Varsity Eight Boat (Christine H.B. Grant)
